KULt-LAB: LABORATORY FOR SUBJECTS AND PEOPLE

The Carinthian Regional Museum and the »Podzemlje Pece«, Tourist mine and museum, are the central institutions in the Meža Valley that preserve, manage and promote the area's movable and immovable cultural heritage, which has been shaped by the centuries-long work of miners and ironworkers. From the point of view of sustainable development, both institutions are aware of the need to continuously update and upgrade their expertise and offer. The activities of the KULt-LAB project are based on three pillars: digitalization of cultural heritage, restoration of cultural heritage and education on the importance of its preservation. The project will digitalize part of the historical material, restore sound recordings illustrating mining work, restore museum objects, and carry out various educational workshops on the importance of preserving (conserving and restoring) cultural heritage for various, including disadvantaged, target groups: employees of both institutions, the general public and amateur collectors of artefacts, young people, and the users of the CUDV (The Center for Training, Work and Protection). By educating, informing and raising awareness among the general public about the importance of preserving cultural heritage, as well as exchanging knowledge between different stakeholders, the project will contribute to improving local capacities and increasing social awareness. The involvement of various groups and stakeholders will contribute to the sustainable development of the local community. The KULt-LAB project will undoubtedly be an added value for the LAG area, as its activities will be focused on preserving the cultural heritage of the area, promoting tourism, and improving the existing infrastructure. The revitalisation of former industrial spaces is an innovative feature of the project, which will also be reflected in new innovative partnerships established with a view to lasting cooperation and joint efforts for the development of the LAG area.
