The main goal of the project is to establish a resilient and responsible management of tourism development in Karavanke mountains on the basis of special natural and cultural assets. This should be achieved through bilateral integration of a target-selected partner structure, where the UNESCO Global Geopark is the bilateral link of this natural and cultural area, relevant tourist organizations on both sides of the border are active in the day-to-day marketing of the area, guest management and maintenance of tourist infrastructure. Management is based on 3 pillars which are reflected in work packages: conscious management and infrastructure maintenance for experiencing nature, development of innovative products on importance of nature conservation, and visitor management.
The goal of the project is to strengthen both tourism stakeholders and those responsible for implementation and maintenance of tourist infrastructure (municipalities, tourist associations, leisure service providers etc.), as well as “users” of the bilateral natural and cultural space in their sense of responsibility and conscious action in this nature.
This way, the Karawanken-Karavanke UNESCO Global Geopark should establish itself as a resilient tourist destination that includes nature and culture protection in its program. Endangerment of sensitive areas must be monitored and reduced to the minimum possible extent. At the same time and with an increased emphasis on protection-worthy areas and phenomena, more attractive and modern areas for experiencing nature and culture should be encouraged and their quality should be improved.
